Dr. Todorov

What do you know about the benefits of taking probiotic supplements to improve acne?

I am not aware of any good evidence that probiotic supplements have any effect on acne. The link between acne and diet also appears rather week if it exists at all.

Oooo! I can answer this one! I did a whole report on probiotics last year!

I am very sorry to say that the probiotics I tried last year were not all they were cracked up to be :( I did an experiment with them. First I tried using them. It said that you could notice results in two weeks (feeling better, etc.) but I noticed nothing! Then I tried growing them in broth because I figured if they can be activated in the human digestive system, they can be activated in broth. Nothing grew. I also tried on agar dishes. But there was no growth anywhere! I tried several kinds including L. acidophilus and Lactobacillus GG. I get the feeling that the pills or powder rarely contain the actual live organisms. I think they might die while in storage.

This does not necessarily conclude to anything. It could have just been my sample or I could have screwed something up in the experiment.

You can try it if you want, but I really think that yogurt (Activa is a good one) is a lot better of a source for probiotics. You know they are alove in there! Otherwise the yogurt wouldn't be thick.

By the way, Dr. Todorov...How do you pronounce your name? Is it todORov, TODorov todorOV?

If you want to ensure that it's live culture, try fresh active yogurt or kefir, or, even better, make one yourself.

P.S. My name is pronounced 'TODorov', emphasis is on the first syllable.
