Have you seen any research or heard the effectiveness of putting an equal mix of apple cider and onion juice on age spots or melasma on the face?

No, haven't heard of this one.

Apple cider contains acetic acid, so it is probably an exfoliant. But if too concenrated, may cause skin irritation.

Hi,

How would the onion juice be made? Would you rub a cut onion on the skin? Would you prepare onion juice and use the same juice for a few days or weeks?

This is avery intriguing idea.'

Thanks!

This is what I found out.....

Age Spots:
Mix 1 teaspoon of onion juice with 2
teaspoons of Apple Cider Vinegar and apply to the spots
with a cloth.
Some people make it even easier by dipping
half of a sliced fresh onion in the ACV and
rubbing it into the skin. The spots begin
to fade within a few weeks.

I will try it and report back.

Interesting: I think Mederma uses an onion extract. Please post your results.

I've heard that pure lemon works too. I haven't tried it myself though.

Quercetin

Quote:
Natural chemical present in onion, a favonoid (same type of compound like EGCG of green tea and rutin). Quercetin inhibits fibroblast proliferation, collagen production., and contraction of keloid and hypertrophic scar-derived fibroblasts. It can help prevent the release of histamine and other mediators of allergic reactions, possibly by stabilizing cell membranes so that they are less reactive to allergens. Quercetin also exhibits anti-inflammatory properties, inhibiting formation of inflammatory prostaglandins and leukotrienes. In vitro and animal studies have shown that quercetin inhibits degranulation of mast cells, basophils and neutrophils. Such activity could account, in part, for quercetin's anti-inflammatory, anti-allergy and immunomodulating activities. Other in vitro and animal studies suggest that quercetin inhibits tyrosine kinase and nitric oxide synthase and that it modulates the activity of the inflammatory mediator, NF-kappaB. The mechanisms of anti-viral (in some cases enhanced with vitamin C) and anti-cancer activity that have been observed, again in in vitro and in animal studies, are unknown. Another interesting property of quercetin is its anti-elastase activity, i.e. it inhibits the activity of the endogenous enzyme responsible for the breakdown of elastin, a component crucial to skin elasticity.
