I am new to this the whole skin care concept. I am a 32 year old male. My goals are the following:
1. Protect skin and prevent new wrinkles.
2. Reduce/remove blackheads on nose.
3. Remove/reduce existing wrinkles.
I would say my skins is slightly oily and other than blackheads I don't have an acne problem.
My current daily routine is as follows:
Day and Night
1. Wash face with Neutrogena Deep Clean Facial Cleanser (drugstore.com/qxp20892_333181_sespider/neutrogena_deep_clean/facial_cleanser_for_normal_to_oily_skin.htm)
2. Use Stridex alcohol free pad w/ 2% Salicylic acid (for blackheads and removing dirt and oil).
3. Apply Neutragena Advanced Solutions Nightly Renewal during the night and the daytime version during the day. (drugstore.com/products/prod.asp?pid=92538&catid=13554)
The main active ingredients in the Advanced Solutions cream are Micro-DA Retinol, DMAE, and AHA.
I've read all through this site and many posts but there are so many options. Is using Salicylic acid daily safe for my skin? Is it OK to apply the moisturizer on top of the Salicylic acid? Is there another OTC product that would be a better moisturizer and "age fighting" cream? Are any of the products I am using dangerous or might actually cause wrinkles? Is there any OTC creams that has been proven to reduce wrinkes?
I'm not at all interested in DIY so I would prefer OTC products. I would appreciate any feedback, suggestions, and specific product recommendations by product name and brand. Feel free to share your opinion! |

You are missing a sunscreen during the day with UVA/UVB protection.
Retin A, retinol (weaker than retin A), vit C (15% stabilized acidic form) and AHA are the proven anti-age ingredients.
If your skin doesn't get irritated from the current routine, then it's good. |

Thank you for the reply. Actually the Neutragena Advanced Solutions daytime cream contains SFP 15 so I am OK there. The Advanced Solutions cream contains Retinol and AHA. Is there a place online I can buy the Vitamin C cream you recommended?
Also, is using Salicylic acid OK ot use on a daily basis? I don't want to use something that causes wrinkles!

SPF is a factor for UVB protection. The skin ageing is casued mainly by UVA so you have to look for sunscreen with good UVB/UVA protection. Unfortunately, in USA, the UVA factor is usually not stated on the label.
I don't use vit C so can't recommend any brand.
If you are using Salicylic Acid on daily basis without problem then it won't 'cause wrinkles'. |

I think you should exfoliate once in a while to renew the surface of the skin. I use oil of olay exfoliating scrub. You can also use this as your daily cleanser because it is not too rough on the skin |
