"It may also be useful to incorporate green tea into your skin maintenance routine to possibly slow down skin aging. However, simply buying a green tea cream may not necessarily be the best way to go. Like most other antioxidants, green tea polyphenols are oxidized and lose their activity when exposed to air. Whether commercial green tea creams retain the activity is unclear and may vary widely from product to product "
I make a DIY cream using the base cream from Skin Actives with green tea / grape seed extra / Niacinamide / Vit E.
When I make it fresh and apply for the first time straight after making a batch my face does a nice tingle when applied.
However only does it once but then not after. Its stored in the fridge. Is this because its Oxidized? I cant make a fresh batch every day. What can we do? |

No, if you store in the refrigerator, tightly closed, most of your actives should be ok for at least a week. The lack of tingling could be because you apply it cold after the refrigerator, or you developed tolerance, or for many other reasons, but most likely not because your antioxidants already got oxidized in just a day of proper storage.
Next time, after you take it out of the refrigerator, remove and discard the topmost layer of cream in your jar (the one that might have got oxidized) and apply the fresh cream from underneath. If oxidation is involved, that should make a difference. |
