I tried and loved punkmedics...
Super small independant company. Not very mainstream but 100% organic and vegan... cant get more natural than that...
I tried the vegan face cleanser and lotion and it worked very well for me.

I found Punkmedics website and looked at their vegan cleanser. They have DMDM Hydantoin in it. This ingerdient releases fromeldahyde a known toxic ingredient and said to be carcinogenic.

Hi Dakota,

thanks for your reply... I looked onthe site and you are right...Im trying to do more research about dmdm hydantoin; as per wikipedia ( not always the most reliable source) it says that: DMDM hydantoin is an organic compound. The Cosmetic Ingredient Review Expert Panel has evaluated DMDM hydantoin and determined that it is safe as a cosmetic ingredient... but then when i research fromeldahyde its mentioned that: Formaldehyde has been banned in cosmetics in both Sweden and Japan

I think ill email punkmedics head office and see what they say about it...Stay tuned!

wow, they replied soooo quickly:

this is what they say:
"DMDM Hydantoin is a formaldehyde releasor in aqueous media. The Cosmetic Ingredient Review (CIR) has reviewed the safety of formaldehyde in cosmetics and personal care products and concluded that it was safe to a great majority of consumers.

The amount of DMDM Hydantoin required to preserve a product (less than 1%) does not expose the consumer to concentrations of formaldehyde above the 0.2% limit for formaldehyde recommended by the CIR

The amount used in PunkMedics products is less than 0.1% way below the limit set by the CIR and way below any level of toxicity to the body"

Your thoughts?

Rebecca,

A good source for finding out about any ingredient whether or not it is toxic and the level of toxicity is cosmetics data base
put out by the enviromental working group. According to them DMDM Hydantoin is on the high hazard list. In the Punkmedics products they have a number of toxic ingredients in alot of their products. I guess if they say they are all natural and organic I wonder why they have these ingredients. I would be careful if you plan to use their products if you are really seeking to use all natural and organic products. I think Aubrey Organics is way better as far as natural goes BUT some of their products I have questions about. I have only just VERY recently started on the D.I.Y. journey. So far I am quite happy. I can be the one in control of how fresh it is and what goes into my products. Something worht looking into. It is quite easy and very affordable.

I have such an oily skin though. I am afraid D.I.Y. product will mess it up even more... Maybe i should start doing recipe research..

Rebecca,
I understand with the oily skin issue. In the D.I.Y. packs I am sure there is info. on making products you can use to keep your skin nice and work with the oily issue. After I put on my c-serum, wait 15 minutes then the moisturizer, I use skin oil balancing powder from thevitalimage. It works awesome at controling the excess oils. My skin has a matte finish after I use the powder (sparingly).

Go to Cosmetics Data Base or the Enviromental Working Group website and type in the brand she uses or she wants to use. I don't know of a place that lists all the mascaras that contain mercury. You need to find out what the company names the ingredient that is suspect for mercury content and avoid it if you see it in any mascara. The web site I gave will tell you how toxic ( what level) the ingredients are.

Use aloe vera on the skin and it will help clean out the pores and help with oily skin.

My cousin put me onto Moogoo for my eczema and that's been awesome. They're all natural. I've also used Jurlique before which is good and some hair care products from A bit hippy which are just lovely and helped with my dandruff. Be careful though because some companies claim to be natural but are hidden with chemicals. I learnt the hard way and have wasted so much money in the past. :)
