I noticed there's an ad on the home page for a product called Deception. I contains EMU oil. Dr. Todorov, can you give us an opinion or some info on emu oil? Thanks! |

Actually, I don't have ads on home page, only on secondary pages. I do not control what is displayed by advertising feeds in the ad space nor do I endorse or have an opinion about any of it.
I don't know the product Deception -- but the name sounds a bit strange (Is the user deceiving others about her age, or is she deceived by the product's claims?).
As for Emu oil, it is a good emollient, possibly a mild antiirritant and antiinflammatory. It might be a slightly better penetration vehicle than, say, mineral oil. Other than that - don't expect miracles from it. |

I heard mineral oil is a derivative of crude oil???? Am I an idiot or did I just hear it wrong?
Emu oil has been on Opray, so it's gonna be a hit.
Dr., would you pleasse investigate Deception and/or emu oil? |

Yes, mineral oil is a petroleum product. However, being derived from pertioleum does not always mean that it is harmful -- it depends what is derived and how. You could derive (via organic synthesis) lactic acid or even vitamin C from petroleum if you wanted to, it's just cheaper to derive it from other sources... |

Hi Lebolian, Do you know when this emu oil would have been featured
on Oprah because I would have been interested in finding out what
she thought of it.
Thanks Sjay

dremu is just an upmarket name for LB Processors clear emu oil. You can buy it buy the pint for what dremu sell small quantities for. I have tried the clear emu and whilst it is nice, it isn't moisturising enough for me.
Ultra emu on the other hand WOW! don't be duped by claims that it makes wrinkles vanish etc, becaus it doesn't and it isn't an antioxdant either (though LB put small amounts of vit E in to act as a preservative).
What it does do is really penetrate the skin (and supposedly help push other actives in with it ) and deeply moisturise it. I seriously would not be without it now. |

Hi just another piece of anecdotal evident: I too like Emu oil. I use it at night as a moisturizer (I have added a little vitamin E and evening primrose oil). It keeps my dry, sensive skin moist - I think that is about the extent of its anti-aging ability (though this is not to be underestimated). It is inexpensive, so well worth a try. |

i also use emu oil as a moisturizer. i use it at night, and i think it definately has some anti-irritation and anti-inflammatory effects. for one thing, it will never make your skin hurt if you just did a chemical peel or something like that - it is perfect for that. so many plastic surgeons promote kinerase for post-procedural time. i've tried it and it burned my skin. emu oil will not. it's a great moisturizer. it is great under makeup too. it won't erase wrinkles, but it will make the skin seem more youthful because it is fully moisturizing. |

Is emu-oil also a good moisturizer (to hydrate) for oily skin, prone to break outs?
Or should I better stick to just hyaluronic acid etcetera for hydrating? |

that is why i use it. my friend is concerned with her acne and looks at some acne boards, and said a lot of people who take accutane use emu oil as a moisturizer. it is supposedly supposed to even "help" acne. i don't think i have ever experienced pimples disappearing overnight from using emu oil, but i can say with certainty that it has never ever aggravated it, and i usually do wake up in the morning with clearer skin. i have never tried hyaloronic acid for moisturiizing, so i cannot compare, but i hope this helps. since using emu oil as a moisturizer i have maybe had one real break out that i can remember in two years. before then i was breaking out all the time. i am only 26, and most of my friends still have acne issues. i thought it was because of "aging,' but my skin doesn't have a line yet, so maybe it is the combination of retin a with emu oil. |

Okay, but accutane makes your skin dry I have been told. So that's why they need a moisturizer.
I'm not so afraid emu-oil clogs my pores, I am mostly afraid it will leave my face very shiny.... |

oh...well that's quite different. your question concerned acne. i don't have dry skin and i use it. it is recommended to use just two drops for the whole face, which is not very much. it also absorbs into the skin very well. leave it on a couple minutes and it should absorb it works great under any sort of makeup as well. when i wear it out, i blot off any excess (i tend to overapply), and when i do that, my skin appears matte, but when i touch it, it feels moisturized. that is my experience with shine. |
