Hi Dr. Todorov.
I saw an esthetician a few weeks ago (who works in the office of a well-respected dermatologist) who recommended ultrasound procedures to help fade remaining hyperpigmentation from adult-onset acne. I have a pitted scar as well that has filled in significantly with copper peptides, but not completely. She felt the increased collagen prodution from these procedures may help fill in this scar further.
I am not really familiar with the use of ultrasound for such purposes (though I have found websites that talk about their use), and was wondering if you could tell me how safe these procedures are. I think she plans on using Tri Luma for the dark marks. Not sure what else.
I have an appointment for one of these next week. Your input is greatly appreciated.
Thanks!!

Ultrasound is on of the possible ways to induce controlled tissue damage and thus induce skin remodelling and collagen deposition. This use of ultrasound is at least theoretically reasonable, but there isn't much data as to safety and effectiveness. Most likely, equipment, power settings and technique would have a major impact on how safe it is. Improperly used, ultrusound could be as damaging as any high energy tool. You should at least talk to other people who had exactly this procedure done exactly the same way by the same practitioner. |
