This sounds like a "patented jargon" designed to conceal the chemistry of the actual peptide or peptide derivative used in the product.

Yup, D-58 is just a patented name for palmitoyl pentapeptide. In case anyone is confused, a company can take any chemical (such as vitamin C, palmitoyl pentapeptide, retinol, etc) and register a copyrighted name exclusive to that chemical. Basically, any company can use that chemical but they either have to call it by its chemical name or use a non registered name. Why do companies do this is simple; for profit. “10% vitamin C” doesn't sound as flashy as “10% reduce-a-line” or whatever. So how does someone know what the actual chemical use din the product is? The companies are legally obligated to state the chemical name in the ingredient list so the savvy consumer should check there for the answer.
