hi.
Have anyone tried anything to retexturise their skin? Mine is plagued with some pitted scars that aren't too obvious on my cheeks and my forehead. only very obvious when under light and it really bothers me a lot. my acne is considered medium kinda serious i think.
can anyone tell me if chemical peels help to smoothen the pitted scars? what amount of concentration should be used then? is mircodermabrasion a better alternative? what are the procedures?
thanks |

Hi,
If you have pitted scars, I would see a dermatologist and discuss derm-abrasion (not micro-derm). With pitted scars, the microderm and peels probably will not be enough.
The Smoothbeam laser has been FDA approved for treatment of acne scars. This does help but is temporary and requires maintenance. It is very costly.
I would not spend $$ on treatments without a prescription. From what you described, you need medical intervention.

I am having some success with my pitted acne scars using a home microdermabrasion kit Epidermx and Silkia camillia oil. I did 6 microdermabrasion sessions at a spa before and while I loved how smooth they made my skin look, they didn't anything for the pitted scars. I read from another board about this Epidermx/Silkia and gave them a shot. It's been about 6 months and my scars are definitely fading away. The difference is not huge but very visible. I have high hopes with longer use. My scars are a couple of years old. If interested you can get more info at the goldportbeauty site. I have never used anything that came close to this result. I am so excited!!! |

I have been using Retin-A for about 8 months, and do see slight improvement of shallow scars. Just started with copper peptides and am hoping for more improvement. |

dont go for microdermabration, dont like it and does nothing for scars, chemical peels dont do much for pitted scars but can help skin texture and other types of scars, tca cross method would probably work best for you. |

For deep pitted scars you could look into dermal fillers. |

Hey I am coming back to give an update on my progess using Silkia camellia oil/Epidermx scrub on my pitted acne scars. I see improvement every month. They're much shallower now. I'm so thrilled! |

i agree with dr todorov
in addition, you can research restylane and sculptra.
please do your own research on these 2 treatments since i do not know if it is specifically for deep pitted acne scarring. i don't believe it was specifically made for that but it doesn't hurt to do your own research |

The best treatment I have ever seen for acne scarring is the 1540 Fractional resurfacing laser made by Palomar Medical. Palomar Medical is the same company that invented, and then sold the Fraxel Laser to a company called Reliant. The Fraxel Laser does a good job, but not as good as the results I have seen from the newer device. The 1540 Fractional resufacing laser is much less painful, does not require any blue die on your face, and it produces deeper micro thermal zones, up to 800 microns deep, much deeper than the Fraxel. I have seen the post treatment tissue histology slides as well as the before and after pictures. The results are amazing. |
