I am 32 and have good skin but I can see lines are starting to grow underneath my eyes - laughter lines! I think Botox would help these lines as they are due to movement. However, I'm not sure whether to wait until I'm older or if I should have Botox now inorder to prevent them from getting any worse. |

I am not sure there is a necessarily a right or wrong answer here. Partly it depends on how deep the wrinkles are. If they are fine lines or very small wrinkles, you could first try topical collgen stimulants such as vitamin C and its derivatives and see if you can stop the progression or even reverse these wrinkles. If that doesn't work, Botox would be a reasonable alternative - as long as these are motion wrinkles. |

Hi Katherine
I would not recommend to use Botox just yet. You are much too young for that. Use a very good skin regime instead. I would recommend not to start using Botox before you are reaching 40.

Im a 42 yr old and I had botox for fine lines around my eyes about a year ago I would never get it done again I think they are worse now than before I got it done the botox paralyses the muscle then I found that other muscles compensate the relaxed muscle and more appeared I wouldnt be getting it done but its up to you, debbie |

I disagree with Debbie, it sounds like her injection has not been done properly. No muscles should move compensating the relaxed ones, they should be fixed as well. It takes up to three top ups to get it right and you have to go back to your doctor to make it right. But if your doctor is highly reputable, you'see him/her twice: on the injecton day and two weeks later for checkup or top up ( free of charge ). |

Botox can be used under the eyes (off label, not FDA approved) in most people, but not everybody. The problem is that patients with poor mucle tone in the lower eyelid can end up with the the edge of the eyelid hanging down which can cause the eye to get dry (and it looks awful). To find out if you are good or a bad candidate to have Botox injected under the eye, the doctor will have you look straight up, gently pull your lower eye lid down and then quickly release it. In a good candidate, the lower eyelid will instantly snap up to the position it was in before the doctor pulled it down (instantly means less than 1 second). If the eye slowly moves back to it's normal position (greater than 1 second) then you are at risk for developing a sagging lower eyelid. Only tiny amounts of Botox are injected into this area, no more than 2-3 units under each eyelid.
There is an increase in compensatory muscle tone in the frontalis (forehead) muscle which is used intentionally to increase the arching of the female eyebrow. When this is done correctly, women get a very attractive winged or arched eyebrow. There is no reason that there should be any increas in compensatory muscle movement in untreated areas unless the injections were done so poorly that there is a functional defecit such as droopy eye brows, sagging lips, etc. |

Katherine,
Have you decided on anything yet? If so, please share your experience! I'd love to hear it!
You are young for having wrinkles like that. But it just shows that you are a jolly person! I laugh a LOT so I'll probably get those wrinkles when I'm in my 30s! If you are still undecided, I would say go for it! Botox does not last forever, so if you don't like the outcome, you'll never have to get it done again. That, to me, seems like the most logical solution. Make sure you get doc who knows what he/she is doing. Make sure you trust him/her before you get it done. |
