Dr. Todorov, I recently phoned the makers of Thermage, Solta Medical Inc., and asked them whether Themage used ionizing or non-ionizing radiofrequency/radiation, and they couldn't give me an answer. They basically told me that it's not the same as radiation, so they couldn't answer that question.
Hearing this and then reading Dr. Todorov's article on how it is similar to a microwave, this really worries me even more if the company itself will not answer this question.
I also asked the makers whether Thermage was ever tested for safety and effectiveness by anybody else not funded, nor affiliated with Solta Medical Inc., and again they just said a standard answer that "it is FDA approved" which to me means nothing in terms of effectiveness, since so many things have been "FDA approved" due to highly paid, biased studies, submitted to the FDA by the affiliated company, and never tested independantly. They would not provide me with any studies conducted which were NOT done by the maker itself, Solta Medical Inc., and practically ignored my questions.
To sum it up, this company really worries me, and I don't think I would trust them after reading negative reviews on it, on top of the fact that they will not answer some simple question which I asked.
Anybody planning on getting Thermage should first try and contact the company and see that they will not even answer these simple questions, which makes me suspect them even more.
Dr. Todorov, would you happen to know whether Thermage uses ionizing or non-ionizing radiofrequency/radiation?
Or could they correct in saying that it cannot be compared to radiation, so in the end it is neither ionizing nor non-ionizing?
Furthermore, if in fact it is radiation, why don't they aknowledge that it is radiation, perhaps out of fear from the consumer? |
