|

This might be a strange question but, Can drinking a couple of cups a day of coffee cause spider viens on the cheeks? I have been using a high retinol cream on my face for 3 years now but I mostly avoid the cheek area because I am sensitive there, lately I tried to use a little Renova 0.025% on my cheek area, just one time and it seems that I have a few more on my other cheek now. Could the Retinoid be causing this or could it be from drinking coffee. I have heard that coffee raises blood pressure for awhile, so could that cause spider veins. I sure hope this isn't a dumb question.
Thank you |

I often see reports of people getting spider veins from retinoids - those irritate skin and spider veins are natural reaction to irritation. Coffee is a stimulant, it could raise blood pressure and make existing veins more pronounced/reddish but I never heard it can make them appear. |

With prudence and patience (low strength, gradual build up, etc.), most people can successfully use retinoids without irritation. |

Thank you for your reply drtodorov, :)
I have another question then, I asked about coffee but could drinking a couple of glasses of red wine cause spider veins to be more pronounced and red the next day? I had 2 glasses of wine last night at dinner and today my spider veins are standing out and red again. I guess should cut out the wine. |

Alcohol is vasodilator, so it is possible. |

Hi,
People who have rosacea tend to flush and blush. It is prevalent in persons with light skin. Treating rosaea can help minimize the redness and veins etc. A lot of people have rosace but do not know it.

Thank you :)
It's possible that I have a slight case of it. I will have to chcek that out. I wonder what would be a good treatment for it. |

Coffee and alcohol can both have an affect on causing a "flare-up" if you suffer from rosacea. Other things that may cause a "flare-up" include hot tea and even spicy foods. Exercise can also bring out the redness. Millions of people around the world have rosacea and many people don't even realize it. |
