Here are some other simple silicone based mattifiers for oily skin:

http://answers.google.com/answers/threadview?id=221851

The average price is about $20/oz compared to Monistat powder gel that sells for $4.7/ oz.

That's what I call price inflation :)

Dr Tod,
everybody is raving about this silky cream ! would like your opinion about this Monistat powder gel cream ? tks

I haven't tried this particular cream. But for my general thoughts on pros an cons of silicone based skin care see my earlier post in this thread.

As far as personal experiences go, I had a scar, a relatively small one, that was dramatically reduced when I tested a silicone based sheath (like a bandaid) on it.

Dr T--I want to use that base for all of the creams you put in your infopack. I like to experiment!

Also, I hope that I am not getting beyond your boundries of not talking too much about the DIY on the board. Just let me know if I am.

Thanks.

As I said, I haven't DIY tested this type of base. You are on your own here.

Update:

This is still the best and cheapest silicone mattifier out there...

The gel is soluble in oil but NOT in water so is not suitable for base for water soluble active ingredients. Yet you can always apply it on top of any cream/sunscreen or directly on skin for good mattifying effect.

I bought the Monistat powder gel posted & you are right .... it is very silky & not oily . Now I know why so many people like the Regenerist ( silicone ) would be nice to know if we can use it as a base cream with the active ingredients ?

This is a very simple formula. It is primarily silicone rubber particles that have been mixed with low-molecular-weight siloxanes. They swell with these fluids, providing a thickened matrix (gel). I'll try to see if there's someone who'll sell this stuff in small quantities.

The active ingredient is dimethicone, which is very stable and non-reactive. There should not be a problem adding most other oil-soluble ingredients to the Monistat if you want to use it as a base.

Hi, Dr. Todorov, everyone,

Is there a way we could replicate this Monistat cream by ourselves? Thanks

It's probably doable bit may require a major effort including the difficulty in purchasing individual ingredients of Monistat base. However, you could use another anydrous base, such as oil+emulsifying wax mixture, which is easy to make and covered in the latest update to the infopack.
