Is the redness inflamatory redness or its permanent redness from capillaries? Was the redness caused by irritating 'anti-acne' topicals like Salycilic acid, Benzoyl peroxide etc?
Low doses accutane 10mg/day will stop pimples and reduce oiliness if any. Since the dose is low it will take 2 weeks to notice its working and the only side effect is dry lips - apply vaseline at night. |

I guess you really have to try out a few solutions before you really know what works for you.

However, having said that, some solutions may have harmful side effects while others - especially those that are based on natural means - are relatively safe.
Thus, you really need to be mindful of the risks that you're taking. On the other hand, if you don't risk at all, you have to live with the painful effects of acne for a long time to come... |

he products you are using, are they Salsylic Acid or Benzoyl peroxide? BP can be VERY drying. I personally like SA better. Salsylic acid it really good. It is in almost all acne washes. Benzoyl Peroxide is too drying for me! Try finding a face lotion with SA in it. Clean and Clear has a good moisturizer with SA and it helps keep pimples at bay. It is only about $5 a bottle and lasts about 2 months and you can get it at your local store. I have used this in the past and it works well. Personally, I use Biore products (which you get over the counter. Their products range from $5-$10). They are harsh on pimples, but not on your face.
Personally, Proactive didn't work for me. I have been using Biore products for over a year and I hardly ever break out! Occasionally I will get one or two, but nothing bad. I use Biore Ice Cleanser and warming facial scrub every morning. And then 3-4 day s a week I use Biore purging pore cream scrub. For body acne I use Neutrogena acne body wash I never break out on my body. It gets 110 in summer so sweat in inevitably, yet I never break out. Give it a try. All of it is cheap too. About $5-10 depending on what you buy! Salsylic acid it really good. It is in almost all acne washes. Benzoyl Peroxide is too drying for me! I think you will just need to experiment with products until you find what works for you. Remember, it can take 1 month for products to fully begin working! Good Luck!

Hi, I just posted on this forum in a different topic about what has been amazingly helpful to me. Ths program is not allowing me to link to it, so I'm just going to copy and paste. This regimen has been a lifesaver.
Morning - 1) Benzoyl Peroxide Cleanser (Proactive is great because their cleanser has exfoliation beads as well)
2) Glycolic Acid Toner
3) Benzoyl treatment lotion (Proactive or whatever else you find)
4) Oil free moisturizer with sunscreen, very important
Evening - 1) Glycolic Acid Cleanser (Jan Marini is expensive, but the BEST and lasts a long time)
2) Gentle Toner (Proactive is okay, or anything aelse that might have some calming properties, Emily's Beauty In Balance has a great natural one)
3) Salicylic Acid Moisturizer (Clean & Clear)
This regimen has worked wonders for me, but was arrived at slowly. So please, try using just one product at a time until you know how sensitive you wil be to the ingredients, otherwise it might be a big assault on your skin to go all out at first. Start slowly and you will develop a tolerance. Your skin will clear up in a few weeks to a few months, depending on the severity of your acne.
DON'T forget sunscreen, as these products sensitize your skin to UV.
The main reason why these products work is they get rid of the dead top layer of your skin so that your pores won't get clogged anymore. They also disinfect to prevent new break outs and dry out pre-existing pimples.
If your skin gets very dry with these products, put Jojoba oil on your skin. It will not make you break out, but feels amazing. Try to avoid dry skin, as this actually makes acne worse by blocking pores with dead skin cells. |
