Not the doctor BUT...

**Congratulations** what a feat you have accomplished!

Consider yourself a wonderful testament for those
out there striving to do the same!

Markey :-)

Hi bevinc and well done!

I am a terminal quitter (I quit for long periods and then lapse for shorter ones :? ) and I found that when I stopped regularly smoking, my skin improved dramatically. My skin got a rosy glow to it (some may call it rosacea, I prefer healthy look!). The lines around my mouth disappeared completely and my skin looked plumper (though that could have been all the extra fruit and water I was consuming as an oral alternative.

Remember, if you do slip up and have one, it isn't the end, you just start quitting the next day.

This hasn't really been studied, but my guess would be that similarly to sun damage, part of the damage is reversible and part is not. With sensible skin care program you should try to reverse the reversible part.

I am also a smoker who is trying to quit, so congrats!! I am replacing the habit with eating rice cakes and raw veggies. Anyways....I was wondering if being around sidestream smoke can impact your skin the same as smoking can? Growing up, my father was a smoker. Am I doomed??

I suppose the effect of second hand smoke on the skin depends on smoke concentration, duratiuon of exposure and so forth, but it is likely far less that that of first-hand smoking where smoke-induced oxidants travel to all your organs via bloodstream at hi concetrations.

Congratulations; i'm not a doctor, but I read that eating sweet potatoes are great for ex-smokers.

Congratulations on quitting smoking! My aunt quit a few months ago and she looks so fresh and really has that glow that you guys were talking about. She has a much healthier look to her all over. So I think that your skin will be able to look great!

I quit smoking two years ago. As far as I've noticed, my skin improved a lot since then, especially after 6 months on non-smoking. My face has a nicer color and the acne diminished. I don't know if there are medical studies available, but I'm happy with what I see, so I can advise everybody to quit smoking. Life is much better without it.
