I'm attempting to dissolve salicylic acid in ethoxydiglycol (EDG) for a leave on salicylic acid product, but I'm having some difficulty keeping it dissolved. I found mention that it takes about 1-2% (of final formula) of EDG to dissolve 2% salicylic acid, and I found that I can achieve a crystal clear solution by adding some heat. The problem is that it crashes once I put it in the refrigerator to cool. I worked up to 5% EDG but still have the same problem. Any way around this? Should I just continue to add more EDG and hope it will dissolve? Possibly add to the base when warm, before the EDG cools? Use a different solvent? |
