I know that UVA rays destroy collagen, but do they reduce subcutaneous fat cells as well? That is, does regular use of sunscreen help retain fat cells longer? Or is that aspect of skin aging totally out of our control?

Not sure if it was studied. Fat cells are further from skin surface than fibroblasts and collagen, so less of UVA should reach them. So it is unlikely that they are affected as much.
