I realize that skin is more sensitive to the sun when using Retin-A. Does this mean that getting red while using Retin-A is the same type of damaging "sun burn" as getting red when you're not using it? Or possibly a WORSE one? Is it actually considered a sun burn?
My esthetician thinks it's okay because if you're using the product every day, you're constantly exfoliating the dead, "sun burned" skin off.
I'm not sure if she's right and just wanted to check!

Your esthetician is incorrect, the damage will be greater, not less. If you are using retin a, you should try to avoid exposing your face the to sun altogether -- not even when wearing sunscreen.
