After healing, the skin discoloration may be either due to residual erythema (redness), or due to changes in skin pigmentation. Before doing something about it, you need to determine which one you have. Also, if it's a new blemish, you could first wait a few months and see if discoloration goes away by itself, which it often does. |

re: discoloration... since it's been a year or more I feel it's a pigmentation issue (plus it's no longer red but a deeper color)... do you have a suggestion in that case? thanks |

There are many methods of lightening pigmented areas of the skin, including hydroquinone, kojic acid, chemical peels, IPL laser an others. It is difficult to recommend something specific without seeing your skin. Also, what works for some often fails to works for others. You may want to look at reviews of various skin lighteners by our visitors:
