How can I be sure if topical alpha lipoic acid is working for me? If one of the side effects include inflammation, then is it possible that inflammation is responsible for a reduction in wrinkles. Are there any more studies going on outside of Dr. Perricone's?

Nothing works for everyone. So, there's no guarantee that lipoic acid will work for you. However, there are a couple of studies (by people other than Dr. Perricone) indicating that it might have some benefits. See for example:

I have been unable to locate R Lipoic Acid or L-ascorbic acid powder per the recipes in the Do-It-Yourself Skincare Booklets on the smartskincare site. Could anyone help me? It would be much appreciated! Thanks

Thank you for you referral to Bulk Nutrition. However, I was not able to find L-ascorbic acid powder (as specified in the self-skin-care-manuals). They have the ascorbic acid powder but not the L-ascorbic acid. Any ideas? Did I overlook it? Again, thanks for your help.

I've found that companies will call L-ascorbic acid just plain "ascorbic" acid. You should contact Bulk Nutrition to find out for sure.

Also, sometimes L-ascorbic acid powder is called vitamin C powder, which is correct, because D-ascorbic acid is not vitamin C. Just google for vitamin C powder (and ignore buffered versions)

Right, someone has mentioned them before. They sound competent, have you actually ordered something from them?

I've ordered from skinactives and was very satisfied and will definitely use them again. Also, I emailed them a question late one evening and received a reply that same evening. There have been other posts re: this company which is how I found out about them.

Yes I've used them. I got my ala, c, and sea kelp from them. I read something on here about what kind ala and c to get. I use the personal formulator and garden of wisdom also. I try to shop around and ask questions. skin activies is about the best for giving you an answer quickly.

Do you use the sea kelp as a cream base for oily skin? Does it look like a gel? Can you dissolve oil soluble and water soluble ingredients in it?

Yes it looks like a gel. (works really nice in the hair and scalp) I use it with my hyaluronic acid and vitamin C. Also it tighens the face somewhat as well. I haven't tried it with the DMAE yet as I'm still playing with all I have. I've just used it with water no oil. If you have oily skin this would be the stuff to use. They also sell an oil base cream that is just wonderful. It doesn't feel oily at all.

Is the sea kelp ferment the same thing as Seamollient?
