Skin Care Review: Accutane

by Anonymous

I'm on the tail end of my third (yes, third) treatment with Accutane, taking 20mg three times a day. With each course, the first few months are awful, with new scars forming almost daily. The breakouts abate after about four months (the point I'm at now), but the scars and red marks remain. Photosensitivity is a problem, and I feel that I've aged much more quickly since beginning the drug. Nonetheless, the acne is almost gone, and I'm hopeful that this will be the last treatment I'll need. Now I can work on addressing the scars. Some doctors give you glycolic or Vitamin A creams to use while on Accutane (I've done this in the past), but they can be extremely irritating. I'm finding that I can keep the redness down by just using a decent moisturizer. I've also started using Mederma a few times daily, though no noticable improvements from that yet.
