Skin Care Review: Dermaroller

by Amy Diaz, Fort Worth, TX United States

Rating
Good

Benefits
Enhances the effectiveness of other skin care products.

Drawbacks
Not for sensitive skin; using it can result in irritation.

Details
The Dermaroller is designed to help topical skin products penetrate the outer layer of the skin (the stratum corneum) to increase the effectiveness of the preparation. I tried the Dermaroller with Leaf & Rusher skin products (who, incidentally, are the US retailers of the roller), Skinbiology copper peptides, vitamin C serum (homemade), and Retin-A. With the exception of the Leaf & Rusher products, I have used these products over a period of several years without the Dermaroller. Using the Dermaroller did seem to make a difference in how the products worked: results came faster than they did without it. I tried using it off and on for about 2 years on different areas of the face, and the differences in results were noticeable -- with the Retin-A, my skin peeled more and stayed clearer of acne. With the peptides and vitamin C (used separately) my skin appeared smoother (acne scars were less noticeable). (I do not have any wrinkles, so I can't comment on its effect on them.) I did have trouble with irritation; when I first started using it my skin was red and itchy, and on the following days there was still visible irritation (redness and swelling). With continued use, the irritation decreased and is now no longer an issue.

Conclusions
I recommend the Dermaroller for use by people who do not have sensitive skin.
