Skin Care Review: Allergan Prevage MD

by Yvonne, Tampa, FL, US

Rating
No effect

Benefits
Silky texture; pleasant, subtle fragrance (I'm not normally a fan of *any* fragrance)

Drawbacks
Extremely pricy; minimal effect

Details
I decided to make the most extravagant skin care splurge in my life on this product. As a new esthetician, I wanted to experience first-hand how the some of the priciest skin care products out there would perform compared to more modestly priced products. Prevage MD was one expensive lesson!

After one month of consistent use, I saw no improvements in fine lines and hyperpigmentation, however, I also didn't suffer any adverse reactions. The texture was indeed silken and luxurious to the touch, but it did have a slightly uncomfortable tingle that dissipated after 30 min. This would be an agreeable products for those who have a spare $150 to throw away, however, I've received the same skin benefits from products such as Neutrogena or even the latest Oil of Olay formulations...not that these are my favorite products, but my point is that comparable results can be found in products that are a fraction of the price of this Prevage MD serum.

Prevage MD's claims that idebenone, it's primary anti-oxidant, has significantly beneficial results in a topical preparation are dubious. It's maker, Allergan, came up with it's "EPF standard for antioxidants" that claims idebenone is the most powerful antioxidant on the market. However, according to independent, peer-reviewed research, vitamins A, C, E, Superoxide Dismutase, among other antioxidants, seem to be just as effective of an antioxidant. They're also much more readily available and not so outrageously priced.

Conclusions
Nice serum if you have lots of $$$ to spare, but don't expect miracles.
