Skin Care Review: Dove Cream cleanser

by judith, Adelaide, SC, Australia

Rating
Adverse Effects

Benefits
cleanses skin used in place of soap.

Drawbacks
the cleanser is too perfumed, this lead to inflammation of skin.

Details
After using the soap with success, both the scented and unscented versions, I decided to combine the use of the soap with the cleanser and toner. I only used the soap in the morning whilst in the shower. At night time my regime began on the first day of using the cleanser and toner [both Dove products] together and using another brand of moisturiser to finish. The second day I repeated this process but noticed that my skin was slowly changing. It started to feel dry even though I was using my normal moisturiser. By the third day I awoke to find the skin around my eyes was puffed and some redness occuring on other areas such as cheeks, forehead etc. I considered this to maybe be normal as I hadn't used cleansers or toners previous to this. On the fourth day my skin had deteriorated considerably. I experienced severe swelling around my eyes, noticably my eyelids, and more redness appearing as the day wore on. My skin looked and felt horrible. By this stage I could not venture outside due to my appearance. I decided to completely stop using both products and my skin recovered quite quickly within 48 hours. I took these products back to the store and got a refund. I think the cleanser was the culprit because it was so heavily perfumed. I did not use the product around my eye area at all. I wouldn't consider my skin to be sensitive at all as I've tried a few different brands with no adverse effects whatsoever. Needless to say, I stopped using these two products and have resumed to just using the Dove soap and my moisturiser. My skin has been good since that time. The toner seemed to strip my skin of all the natural oils, hence the dryness I experienced.

Conclusions
Be careful when using highly perfumed skin care.
