Skin Care Review: Skin Doctors Gamma Hydroxy

by Kellie

Rating
Excellent

Benefits
Improved skin tone, reduced appearance of fine lines.

Drawbacks
Very mild tingly on first few uses which stopped after a few days.

Details
Skin Doctors 'Gamma Hydroxy Cream' contains a mixture of alpha hydroxy and beta hydroxy acids. Promotional material claims the cream was originally conceived to reduce acne scarring, but in trials many subjects noticed a reduction in the appearance of fine lines and improvement in skin tone. I prefer AHA creams as an exfoliant over mechanical scrubs, and purchased this cream primarily to deal with avoiding congestion in my t-zone and improving overall clarity.

Gamma hydroxy has a lovely consistency and is a sufficient moisturiser on its own for my normal to combination skin. My skin has reacted to certain skincare products in the past. I use gamma hydroxy once a day, including around the eye contours, and have not experienced problems. However, I do not think it would be wise to use this product immediately after using a mechanical facial scrub.

My skin tone improved with the first few days of use, and within a month the pores in my t-zone appeared more refined. Fine lines certainly appear less noticeable while using this product. I don't have many lines to speak of yet at 32 apart some very fine lines appearing around my eyes. If I skip using this cream for a few days these tiny lines do become apparent again. Skin Doctors have released a stronger formulation, Gamma Hydroxy Forte. I am pleased with the results of the original forumula so will stick with that to avoid possible sensitivity to a stronger product.

Conclusions
An excellent AHA skinceutical product in the mid price range best used once daily.
