The recovery was horrible due to the bruising and excessive swelling as well as pain.

Details
The lower face lift I had is something that I will never regret. I had it done when I was 53 and now that I'm 64 I still look 10 years younger than my true age. However, that is easy to say now that it is past me. If I had to do it a second time, would I do it? No way! The pain, swelling, bruising and depression that ensued right after the surgery was beyond my imagining. When I was taken into the bathroom and they let me look at my face in the mirror, I fainted. I looked like a truck had run over my face, and I felt like it too. It took two months before I looked normal and the embarassment of having people see me for two months looking like a monster was more than I could bare to experience ever again. Over 10 years later I still have horrible scars in front of and behind my ears. I cannot push my hair back or cut it short ever. As I said, in retrospect I don't regret it, but I do not want to do it a second time. There are less invasive and noninvasive procedures that, while they do not yield as much of a positive result as surgery, produce enough of an improvement that I am happy with the change.

Conclusions
Try less invasive procedures first.
