Skin Care Review: IPL

by Tim

Rating
Adverse Effects

Benefits
IPL of facial beard worked well

Drawbacks
Faulty eye protector: IPL burned eye sockets- blisters-eye damage.

Details
I am 49yo male in New Zealand. Went to certified beautician for IPL hair removal on my face. 1st visit. The IPL part was superb on all my facial hair, but within 2 days I had a huge blister under each eye + burns around each eye socket (even as high as my top eyelid just under my eyebrow left eye)+ my right eye my GP doctor advised I suffered light injury. Reason: The beautician gave me protective goggles (like ski goggles)but unknown to me the gap between the goggle and my cheek (about 8mm) allowed the IPL intense light to go UNDER the lens, and REFLECT back down to below my eyes, all around my eye sockets and into my right eye itself. It was so uncomfortable after the first side of my face near my eye that I asked for a towel to 'stuff' into the 8mm gap when my second eye was done, but the damage mentioned already was already done from the first eye. The beautician blamed me for it, saying my sun block had chemicals in it, that she had her face done with no adverse (she put the goggles on 5 days post treatment and they fitted her cheek snuggly), As i pointed out, there was no requirement to put sunblock on my eyebrows and eyesockets before the treatment ! I have since had 2nd facial IPL with another beautician, cone type eye protectors, and perfect :)

Conclusions
When IPL face, make sure if goggles used then MUST FIT ONTO CHEEK, or REFUSE TREATMENT
