submitted by Allison B., Atlanta, GA, usa

Provider (individual)
Dr. D. Scott Karempelis, MD

Provider Facility
Dermatology Associates of Atlanta

Treatment
Nonfacial surgery

Address / Location:
Peachtree Dunwoody Rd.
Atlanta, GA , United States

Rating
Satisfactory

Benefits
Laser removal of mole - cosmetic approval

Drawbacks
Pain, some scarring, sometimes it comes back

Details
I had several moles removed at once via the sophisticated lasers at the Dermatology Center of Atlanta. These were non-raised moles that I had removed for cosmetic reasons. The laser removal has to be performed without a local anesthetic since it will interact with it. They put glasses on you and get down to business. Frankly, the smell was not that great - I have to warn you. The intermittent laser can be painful since they basically lase around the mole, leaving a bigger scar than the mole itself, but that eventually fades. After-care requires a soapy rinse with some antibacterial gel covered by a band-aid for about two weeks. This place is very busy but my doctor is great. Only complaint is that they don't sit down and talk to you, or even seem to want to take the time to "up-sell" you on something else. The nurse even refused to talk to me about retin-a or a hydroquinone cream for my freckles, stating "they'll come back anyway."

Conclusions
I won't be going back anytime soon.
