Details
The interesting thing about a mild chemical peel is that when you go in for it, you tend to have a definite goal -- mine was trying to improve my crow's feet and fine lines around my eyes and the fine lines on my forehead, which I was fixtated on, I felt these made me look older.

What I hadn't really understood was that in fact the lines were almost secondary -- I had gotten used to the look of sun spots and old acne scars, these faded into the background, and had become part of my "normal" skin. Why this was the case, why I focused on my fine lines instead is a testament to the selectivity of vision and memory.

Once I'd had the peel, it was strange. My skin looked better, but the reduction in fine lines was not the reason. Instead, it was the reduction in spots, freckles, acne marks and the like. What a surprise.

Take home message: the sun doesn't just age you by increasing wrinkles -- it also creates unevenness in your skin that is much more subtle and pervasive.

Peels really work! My dermatologist has a n inexpensive home peel kit (citric acid) that you can do every other day - "Good Skin," available through Kohl's department store (www.kohls.com)

Conclusions
Peels help you understand aging skin, what it really looks like beyond just wrinkles.
