I would have this treatment more often if I could afford it -- it really does help with blood vessels and hyperpigmentation. Results are noticeable and I have received compliments on my skin shortly after receiving even one treatment. There is some discomfort -- it feels (to me) like someone is flicking a lighter against my skin while simultaneously snapping an elastic band in the same spot. This sensation will continue as treatment progresses over entire surface of your face, chest, or wherever you are having treatment. Requires no downtime. Although this same treatment is available -- generally at a reduced rate -- at an esthetician's, the IPL machines used at the dermotologist office are claimed to be much stronger (and therefore implied much more effective). I can't comment on the validity of this.

Conclusions
It's beneficial for blotchy skin, and requires no downtime.
