My Kaiser Permanente dermatologist referred me to their esthetician for skin care products and instruction. I was given a prescription of Retin-a and bought about $400 worth of Obagi skin re-surfacing products. This consisted of 7 products which were used every morning and evening for six months. My main objective was to try to eliminate some very nasty brown spots, old acne scars, sun damage, etc. The initial phase of the treatment was extremely uncomfortable - very dry, cracked and peeling skin for about 2-3 weeks. However, after about week 3-4 one could definitely see a difference. The treatment failed to get rid of the brown spots, but my general skin tone and texture improved significantly. My main complaint is that the esthetician did not offer me more aggressive treatment or follow-up care to accomplish that, nor was I told that the Obagi system would not penetrate as deeply as I now know is required to eliminate these spots. I continue to use Obagi products to maintain the level of improvement I achieved, but I plan on having more aggressive treatment in the near future.

Conclusions
Worthwhile and achieved some of my expectations.
