Skin Care Tip: How to minimize scaring from minor cuts

submitted by Lily, Vancouver, Canada

I had a cut under my eyes (my eye bags). It was a minor cut, one that would scab and leave a scar that would take a few weeks to a few months to go away. I had a wedding to go to in a week so I really didn't want a scab or a mark there. I used Polysporin (the orignal formula) ointment (not the cream one, but the clear gel one). I basically saturated the open wound with it and put a waterproof completely sealing bandage on it. I made sure that at all times it was saturated in poly - and at no time did I let it dry. This only works with open would I found, if it started scabbing or closed wound, it will not work. After 5 days the wound was completely gone - can't even see it, there was no scabbing at all during the process.

I tried this many times and with different polysporins. The cream version didn't work for me. It only works if it's an open wound and you need to make sure there is also poly on it - don't let it dry. It doesn't work with burns as well as it does with cuts. Use it only for minor cuts. In my experience, the longest it took for a cut to vanish was 7 days, the shortest was 3 days.
