Skin Care Tip: Taking care of the skin around your eyes

submitted by Lesia Gilbert, Ottawa, Canada

I have been selling Avon products door-to-door for almost two years. In an effort to convey better information to my customers, I started to research good skin-care habits. I was surprised to learn that a lot of dermatologists say that many people skip this step in their fight to stop the signs of aging, but that it should be the first step in any antiaging protocol. I think encouraging women to use eye creams is the best beauty tip I can offer.

The skin around the eye loses its elasticity more quickly and is more susceptible to dryness and fine lines. It is the first part of the face to show aging.

Facial moisturizers should not be used around the eye, as most contain active ingredients that are too potent for the fragile eye area. They also lack some of the key nutrients found in most eye creams that are essential for under-eye care.

You should choose the right eye-cream based on what you need from it. All eye-care products usually specify which common problems they help with (i.e. Dark circles, lack of moisture, puffiness, and wrinkles)

Remember, when applying eye cream, use a light patting motion...never rub.
