Nonablative Cosmetic Laser: Variable-pulsed alexandrite 755 nm (Apogee) and diode 810 nm (LightSheer) lasers

Generic name: Variable-pulsed alexandrite 755 nm and diode 810 nm lasers

Brand(s): Apogee, LightSheer

Function / Purpose:
Hair removal (for dark hair only). Alexandrite laser is also used to treat hyperpigmentation.

Details:
These are red lasers primarily used for hair removal. They penetrate into the dermis and their light is absorbed by pigment in hair follicles, which are thereby destroyed. Hence they only work for dark hair. Alexandrite 755 nm and diode 810 nm are similarly effective for hair removal. Alexandrite laser is also used to treat hyperpigmentation. Notably, these lasers sometimes cause a side effect of hyperpigmentation in dark skinned or tanned individuals.
